Behind the Scenes of The Losing Side
Bringing the untold stories of a marginalized community to the screen in our documentary film – The Losing Side, was a challenging yet rewarding journey.
We knew that the task would not be easy, as the community we were filming in was living in abject poverty. Conditions most of us would find difficult to imagine. However, despite the life they lived, the community welcomed us with open arms and shared their powerful, personal narratives with us.
Filming in a remote area came with its own set of challenges. The lack of infrastructure, access to resources, and communication posed significant difficulties for our production team However, we were determined to tell the story of the barbaric injustices the daughters of this community face.
Behind the scenes, the process of filming in such a remote area was not only physically demanding but also emotionally taxing. It was tough to see a community living in such dire conditions and to hear the traumatic stories of the people we met. The stories of injustice and hardship took us some time to emotionally process.
With the difficulties, were also moments of beauty and inspiration. The diverse culture and traditions of the community fascinated us and reminded us that even in the most challenging circumstances, people can still find ways to create beauty and meaning in their lives. We knew that it would be unfair if we didn’t make that cultural diversity part of the film, so we made sure to include it as much as possible.
The film does not only focus on the story of injustice, but also on the celebration of the marginalized community as the custodian of diverse culture and traditions. We wanted to show that this community, despite the challenges they faced, had so much to offer the world, and that their stories were worth telling.
On the technical front, cameras and filming equipment were some of the issues we faced. Access to electricity was limited, and we had to make do with what we had, which made the filming process more difficult. We were able to make it work, and the final product is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our small production company.
Bringing The Losing Side to life was a journey that was both challenging and rewarding. It was a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of telling stories that need to be heard. We are proud of the film we have created and we hope that it will inspire others to take on the challenge of telling important stories that need to be heard.
