On World Disability Day, Jawad Sharif Films announces the release of the official trailer of Two Drops of Hope, a new documentary directed by Syeda Kashmala and produced by Jawad Sharif. The film brings an intimate, human-centered lens to one of Pakistan’s most pressing public health challenges: polio, a disease now endemic in only two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Two Drops of Hope tells stories of three polio survivors whose lives were irrevocably changed because they were not vaccinated in childhood. Through their voices and those of health workers, doctors, government health officials and social workers, the film reveals the lifelong impact of polio, the cultural misconceptions surrounding vaccination, and the extraordinary work being carried out to eradicate the disease from Pakistan.
The documentary shows how a simple act of refusing polio drops can lead to a lifetime of disability. Viewers are invited into the emotional worlds of individuals who have learned to rebuild their lives with resilience, dignity, and courage, while carrying the weight of a preventable disease. The film also takes into account the tireless work of the health officials who often have to deal with difficult terrains and challenging social contexts, to ensure every child receives two drops of the life-saving vaccine.
“This film is rooted in empathy and urgency,” says director Syeda Kashmala. “For survivors, disability is not just a medical condition; it becomes their everyday reality. On the other hand, health workers are performing extraordinary service, going door-to-door, often facing resistance, to protect Pakistan’s children. This film is a tribute to both: those who live with the consequences and those who fight to ensure no child suffers the same fate.”
Two Drops of Hope emphasizes the message that disability caused by polio is preventable and that vaccination is our shared responsibility.
